The Kalkaska Rhinos have added more youth and size to the blue line for the upcoming 2017-18 USPHL season.
Hendrik Röbel, a 17-year-old out of Germany, has signed with the Rhinos and will be immediately noticed with his 6’4″ and solid 200 lbs frame.
“At the end of April, l was at the HPA Combine where (Kalkaska coach) Krzysztof Oliwa came up to me and introduced to me his organization,” said Röbel. “I have liked his organization from the outset and then at the end, I decided on the Kalkaska Rhinos and am very happy with this decision.”
Röbel played last season for the Eisbaren Juniors U19 team and the three years prior, for the Eisbaren U16 squad.
As for his style of play, Röbel said he’s “a team player.”
“I’ve never been so far away from home so far, but it’s a new experience I’m looking forward to,” said Röbel. “The Rhinos have liked me from the beginning and I look forward to the coming season where I want to give the team my best possible season. I am a defensive defenseman who puts on the aggressive physical defending game and hits a lot. I will also work hard for the success of this team.”
Oliwa is also chomping at the bit to get Röbel in a Rhinos jersey.
“Hendrik is another player that we are definitely excited about,” said Oliwa. “He’s fearless, plays a heavy game and for his age, is very consistent on the blue line. He’s very young, but I see him playing a big role in our success this season.”
Just a 2000 birth year, Röbel has time to round out his game with Kalkaska as he chases his long-term hockey goal.
“My goal in the next few years is to play in the NCAA,” Röbel said.
