In a December 9th meeting in Port Colborne, Ontario at the Vale Centre, the first place (24 – 1) Niagara Whalers hosted the fourth place (18 – 4) North York Renegades in a south division Greater Metro Hockey League match – up.
59 seconds before the halfway mark of the opening period, Matt Hore gives the Whalers a 1 – 0 lead with Manny Manns and Tyler Hore adding the assists. With Niagara on a power play Brandon Cercone sends the hosts into the first intermission leading 2 – 0 at 17:19 of the period with Matt Hore and Manns drawng the helpers. North York’s David Maikawa brings the Renegades within one at the 4:08 mark of the season with Jesse Georgopoulos and Marcus Drinovac setting up Maikawa’s power play goal.
Niagara’s Zack Lansfield scores the third of the game to give Whalers a 3 – 1 lead at 2:34 of the third. Andrew Robinson and David Christopher had the contributors on Lansfield’s goal. Matt Hore and Tyler Hore had the assists on Mann’s power play goal to give the Whalers a 4 – 1 lead at 11:28 of the final period. Niagara goaltender Maksim Kuteinikov stopped 29 of 30 shots in the Whalers win while Renegade netminder turned away 43 of 47 shots in North York’s 4 – 1 loss.
The Renegades next match – up will be on December 10th in North York when they host the tenth place Tottenham Steam in a 4:45 p.m start while the Whalers headed to St. George on December 11th to meet the Ravens in a 3:00 p.m afternoon matinee.
