After a shutout win in game one of the south division championship best of seven series over the St. George Ravens in Port Colborne, Ontario on March 9th, the Whalers headed to St. George one day later in game two of the Greater Metro Hockey League championship series.
Brandon Cercone finds the back of the Ravens net at 17:41 on the opening period to send Niagara into the first intermission up 1 – 0 with helpers from Blake Luscombe and Tyler Hore. With unassisted goal to give the visitors a 2 – 0 lead 2:41 into the middle stanza with Whaler Zack Lansfield. David Christopher increases Niagara’s lead to 3 – 0 at 6:57 of the period on a Whaler unassisted goal. Tyler Hore and Cercone set up the Whalers fourth goal at 13:22 of the second with Christopher registering his second of the contest.
Tyler Jackson brings the lead to 5 – 0 for Niagara at 2:27 of the third with Tyler Hore and Christopher drawing the contributors on Jackson’s goal. With 3:25 left in the game, Raven Chris Martin finds the back of Whaler goaltender Joel Horosziejczyk’s net for St. George’s lone goal in the first two games on the series. Horodziejczyk made 33 saves in the Whalers 5 – 1 win.
The Whalers will take their 2 – 0 series head back to Port Colborne for a March 12th match – up against the Ravens in a 7:00 p.m start at the Vale Centre.
