Whalers Take 3-0 Lead in GMHL South Division Championship Series

The Niagara Whalers returned the ice on March 12th for their third game in the best of seven series with 7 – 0 and 5 – 1 wins heading into game three of the series lead up 2 – 0 over the St. George Ravens in the Greater Metro Hockey League south division championship.

1:28 into the opening period, David Christopher sank the first goal of the game for the Whalers with Zack Lansfield and Matt Hore drawing the assists on Christopher’s goal. Kellan Rosenbaum and Tyler Hore set up Niagara’s second goal of the contest scored by Whaler Brandon Cercone at 2:51 of the period. Manny Manns fires a pass to Matt Hore to give the hosts a 3 – 0 lead at the 12:05 mark of the first. Tyler Jackson finds the back of the Ravens net 6:43 into the middle stanza with Paolo Sivilotti and Christopher notching the contributors. 49 seconds last the halfway mark of the second period, Christopher sinks the Whalers fifth of the game with Lansfield and Cercone adding the helpers. Christopher registers his third of the game to give Buffalo, New York 20 year old native a hat trick and bring the Whalers lead to 6 – 0. Tyler Hore and Lansfield had the assists on Christopher’s goal.

At 18:49 of the period, Scott Dorion of the Ravens sunk St. George’s first of the contest with a pass from Tyler Hill. 59 seconds into the third, Matt Hore and Manns had the contributors on Blake Luscombe’s goal to increase Niagara’s lead to 7 – 1. Adding to the Whalers lead 5:03 into the final period, Brandon Cercone second of the game. Manns and Matt Hore drew the helpers on Cercone’s goal. Jacob Thomason scores Niagara’s ninth of the game at 12:34 of the period with Lansfield and Rosenbaum adding the assists. With 5:12 left in game three, Cercone registers a hat trick on the Whalers tenth of the game to give Niagara a 10 – 1 win. Manns and Luscombe had the contributors. Whaler goaltender Joel Horodziejczyk turned away 29 of shots in Niagara’s third straight win in the south division championship series.

The Whalers can end the best of seven series with a win in St. George in a 7:30 p.m Tuesday March 14th match – up against the Ravens.
