At the Tillbury Arena on February 10th, the second place (30-8-0-1) Niagara Whalers visited the fourth place (30-8) Kingsville Kings in a south division Greater Metro Hockey League match – up.
Only 23 seconds into the game, Jake Lloyd finds Brandon Lindberg of the Whalers to give Niagara a 1 – 0 lead. With the Kings on a power play 12 seconds before the halfway mark of the period, Thomas McKinnon fires the tying goal behind Whaler goaltender Will Harvey. Blake Naida and Ivan Mikhailov drew the contributors on McKinnon’s power play marker. At 15:08 of the first, Zachary Dillen scores the go – ahead goal for the Kings on a Kingsville power play with David Vostarek and Petr Panacek adding the helpers on Dillen’s goal. Petr Panacek brings the hosts lead to 3 – 2 at 7:14 of the middle stanza with a pass from Jan Prochazka notching the assist. At 8:44 of the first, Frolov Mikhail pulls the Whalers within one for Niagara with Nick Pastorious and Ethan Spaxman drawing the helpers.
David Christopher evens the game 4 – 4 at 15:09 of the third with Jesse Masterson and Steven Farano setting up Christopher’s tying goal. Blake Naida finds Daniel Krizek of the Kings to give Kingsville a 5 – 4 lead at 17:36 of the period. With 1:03 remaining in the game, Dominik Mikulcak finds McKinnon for the Kings sixth of the game to give Kingsville a 6 – 4 win over the Whalers in Tilbury. Will Harvey turned away 56 of 62 shots in the Whalers ninth loss of the 2017 – 2018 season.
The Whalers will host the eleventh place Tillsonburg Hurricanes on February 11th at the Vale Centre in a 7:00 p.m puck drop.
