In Tillsonburg, Ontario on September 22nd, the Niagara Whalers met the Tillsonburg Hurricanes in Greater Metro Hockey League action. The Whalers are coming off a 4 – 3 loss in Bradford, Ontario against the Bulls in their 2017 – 2018 GMHL season opener.
At 5:39 of the opening period, David Christopher finds the back of the Hurricanes net to give Niagara a 1 – 0 lead with Steven Farano and Kellan Rosenbaum adding the contributors on Christopher’s goal. Jakob Reeves and Justin Graham set up the Whalers second of the contest with Nick Pastorious sinking the visitors second of the contest at 16:14 of the first. With the Whalers on a power play, Pastorious fires his second of the game 51 second into the middle stanza with Patrick Desjardin and Reeve notching the assists for the Whalers. Jesse Masterson and Christopher register the helpers on the Whalers fourth of the game at 2:07 of the period on Steven Farano’s goal to increase the lead to 4 – 0. 57 seconds past the halfway mark of the second, Tillsonburg’s Noah Demelo sinks the lone goal behind Niagara’s goaltender Will Harvey to close the gap to three.
At 11:30 of the final period, Reeves scores Niagara’s fifth of the game with Graham and Rosenbaum drawing the assists to bring the lead to 5 – 1. Farano sinks the Whalers sixth with Dimitri Beer and Froloy Mikhail adding the contributors. Erik Johansson and Christopher sink the final two goals for Niagara with Mikhail and Logan Aprea setting up Johansson’s goal while Christopher’s goal was unassisted. Will Harvey made 24 saves for the Whalers in Niagara’s 8 – 1 win.
The Whalers will host the Windsor Aces on September 23rd in GMHL action in a 7:00 p.m in Port Colborne, Ontario.
