Tottenham Takes the Steam Out of Renegades in GMHL Action

Coming off a 4 – 3 shootout win on September 29th over the Northumberland Stars, the North York Renegades were back in action 24 hours later when they traveled to Tottenham to face the Steam in Greater Metro Hockey League action.

Anthony Podder sinks the first goal of the game 2:35 into the opening period to give the Steam a 1 – 0 lead with Carson Latimer and Viacheslav Chegrintcev adding the assists on Podder’s goal. Veteran Justin Pirie fires the tying goal at 14:59 of the first to even the game 1 – 1 with Connor Ventura and Rick Pantling drawing the contributors for the Renegades. At 3:15 of the middle stanza, Podder finds the back of North York’s goaltender Evan Purdy’s net for the second time of the game to bring the Steam’s lead to 2 – 1.

At sixteen minutes even in the final period, Chegrintcev adds to Tottenham’s lead with Bodgan Shleev and Podder notching the helpers for the Steam. Nevin Guenther sends a pass to Jonathan Schillaci to pull the Renegades within one at 16:47 of the third for North York. With 2:05 left in the game, Shleev scores the final goal of the game to give the Steam a 4 – 2 win over the Renegades. Austin Wilkie and Jonathan Calleja had the assists on Shleev’s goal. North York’s Evan Purdy stopped 32 of 36 shots in the Renegades lost on Saturday evening.

The Renegades will now meet the Toronto Predators at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on October 6th in a 7:30 p.m puck drop.
