Tottenham Ice the Crushers in GMHL Action on the Road

At the Alder Arena in Orangeville, Ontario on January 13th in a Central division match – up, the eighth place Ice Crushers hosted the second place Tottenham Steam in Greater Metro Hockey League action.

3:14 into the first, James Haun opened the scoring for the Steam to give Tottenham a 1 – 0 lead with Matt Fischer and Graham Pickard adding the assists. Anthony Thurston set up Ice Crusher Jordan Stradtman to even the game 1 – 1 at 10:03 of the first. Tottenham’s Stepan Timofeyev sinks the Steams second goal of the game for the go –ahead with coming helpers coming from Pickard and Fischer at 10:59 of the period. At 13:16 of the first, Nicolas Shuman scored Orangeville’s tying goal to bring the game to 2 – 2 with contributors from Darian Harris and Brad Ferrell. 11 seconds later Pickard finds the back of the Ice Crushers net at the 13:27 mark of the period with a pass from Fischer.

Bringing the game to 3 – 3 at 18:49 of the period, Thurston fires the puck behind Tottenham’s goaltender Jason Goes with Harris and Ferrell adding the assists. With 35 seconds left in the first, Dmitri Beliaev sends the Steam into the first intermission with a 4 – 3 lead with Haun and Derick Brehm drawing the helpers. Sinking his second of the contest, Pickard scores Tottenham’s fifth of the game at 4:57 with being set up by the Steam’s Stepan Timofeyev. 21 year old forward Marcus Rose increases Tottenham’s lead to 6 – 3 at 5:59 of the season with Cale Markham and Kevin Walker registering the contributors.

With an unassisted goal, Rose adds to the Steam’s lead at 8:45 of the second. Cale Markham sends a pass to Tottenham’s Michael Bergman for the Steam’s fourth of the period to bring the game to 8 – 3. With Markham and Brandon Yorke contributing on Derick Brehm to added to the Steam’s lead at 16:25 of period. Brad Ferrell sinks the ice Crushers fourth of the game at 16:40 of the second with Nicolas Shurman adding the assist.

Bergman fires the visitors tenth of the game to give the Steam a six goal lead at 2:59 of the third with Liam Sweeney and Yorke drew the helpers. Darian Harris scores Orangeville’s fifth of the game at 4:16 of the period with Ferrell and Joseph Alexander setting up Harris. Just six seconds past the half way mark of the third, Ethan Cornford gives Tottenham a 12 – 5 win over the ice Crushers with Ivan Efimov and Sweeney.

Coach Ryan Wood of the Tottenham Steam told the Junior Hockey Network that “we had a few defensive lapses tonight, but we did a great job in the offensive zone and generated some great offensive chances. It was really nice to get Marcus Rose back into our line up and good to see others contribute offensively.”

The (29 – 1) Steam will be back of the road on January 15th when they head to Bracebridge to face the (14 – 14 – 2) Blues at the Bracebridge Memorial Arena for a 7:00 p.m start.
