The Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Fort Frances Lakers acquired forward Brett Pickler along with goaltender Jessie Heisz on the final day of the Canadian Junior Hockey League tradeline.
The 18 year old Pickler comes to Fort Frances from the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. In 21 games in the 2016 – 2017 SJHL season, the 6’1” and 200 lbs Villa Park, California native had six minutes in penalties before joining the SIJHL Lakers.
Fort Frances coach Wayne Strachan told the Junior Hockey Network that “we feel Brett will add size, grit and hard work to our line up. He is a good skater that has the ability to add some secondary scoring to our team.”
Goaltender Heisz comes to the Lakers in a trade with netminder Dakota Delbridge and defenseman Frank Zhong heading to the Forest Lake Lakers of the USPHL Elite. The 20 year old Janesville, Wisconsin native saw action between the pipes in 30 regular season games during the 2016 – 2017 season. In 30 games, the 6’2” and 180 lbs goaltender had a 3.23 goals against average along with a .908 save percent average.
“Jessie comes to us with high reviews. He was one of the top goalies in the USPHL for Chicago last season and has had another strong season with Forest Lake. We are hoping Jessie will bring stability to our goaltending tandem with Bodnar” said Strachan.
