SIJHL Ice Dogs Acquire Blueliner Brendan Jay from NOJHL Thunderbirds

The Superior International Junior Hockey League 2017 Bill Salonen Cup champions, the Dryden Ice Dogs have acquired blueliner Brendan Jay from the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds for Ice Dog defenseman Garett Giertuga.

The 6’3” and 210 lbs Vancouver, Ontario native played 30 regular season games in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario with the Thunderbirds where the 20 year old tallied 41 minutes in penalties. In 2016, Jay was slected as the Keystone Cup MVP Defenseman with the North Peace Navigators of the British Columbia’s North West Junior Hockey League.

Ice Dog bench boss Kurt Walsten said “Jay’s on ice play can be compared to that of Stanley Cup Champion, Scott Stevens. “Brendan Jay will be one of the best defensemen in the league this upcoming season. He has the ability to play both ends of the rink and will see a lot of playing time. Jay will be tough to compete against because of his size and the physical way he plays the game and the reality that he hits like a tank.”
