On October 7th in Tottenham, Ontario in Greater Metro Hockey League, the North York Renegades visited the Tottenham Steam at the Tottenham Community & Fitness Centre in junior action. The Renegades were coming off a 8 – 1 win 24 hours earlier over the Toronto Predators in North York.
Connor Ventura sinks the first goal of the game 2:43 into the opening period to give North York a 1 – 0 lead with Conor Thomson and Jonathan Schillaci drawing the assists on Ventura’s power play goal. Nevin Guenther finds the back of the Steam’s net at the 8:08 mark of the period with North York’s second power play marker of the contest with Trent Markley and Thomson adding the helpers. With 3:26 left in the period, Kamil Rypar pulls Tottenham within one with Jonathan DaSilva and Trevor Costello notching the contributors. Ventura registers his second at 5:55 of the middle stanza to give the Renegades a 3 – 1 lead, Guenther and Schillaci set up Ventura second of the game. Bodgan Shleev finds the back of North York Evan Purdy’s net for Tottenham’s second of the game at 14:41 of the period, Viacheslav Chegrintcev and Austin Wilkie added the assists on Shleev’s goal.
Rounding out the scoring in the second was Renegade Conor Thomson on a North York power play at 19:26 to send the visitors into the second intermission up 4 – 2. Schillaci drew the helper on Thomson’s goal. Registering his first hat trick of the seaon, Ventura increases the lead to 5 – 2 with being set up by Renegades Schillaci’s and Troy Murray 47 seconds into the final period. Ralfs Circenis and Liam Little register the contributors on Troy Murray’s goal to bring North York’s lead to 6 – 2 at 2:41 of the third. Adding to the lead, Guenther sinks his second of the game at 3:47 on a North York power play with Thomson and Schillaci adding the assists. 59 seconds later, Drake Bailey finds the back of the Steam’s net for the Renegades second power play goal of the period with Circenis and Thomson drawing the helpers. Louis Yiouroukis scores the final goal of the Renegades 7:11 into the period to bring the lead to 9 – 2 for North York. Circenis and Murray set up Yiouroukis’s goal.
At 8:47 of the period and on a host power play, Jonathan Calleja finds the back of Purdy’s net for the Steam’s third of the game with Chegrintcev and Costello adding the assists. Tottenham’s Shleev’s finds Chegrintcev for the Steam’s fourth at 16:39 of the period to close the gap to five. Chegrintcev sends pass to Rypar for the fourteenth goal of the contest and the Steam’s fifth at 17:16 of the third. Renegade’s Evan Purdy turned away 29 of 34 shots in North York’s 9 – 5 win over the Steam.
The Renegades will now have seven days off before they return to GMHL action when North York heads to Tilbury, Ontario to meet the Kingsville Kings in a 7:30 p.m start.
