In Bradford, Ontario in Greater Metro Hockey League action, the North York Renegades opened their 2017 – 2018 regular season against the Bradford Bulls in a mid week match – up on September 13th.
At 7:58 of the opening period, Bradford’s Roope Kalanti sinks the first goal of the game behind Renegade goaltender Evan Purdy to give the hosts a 1 – 0 lead. Frederick Gildsig and Zakk Bekolay had the contributors on Kalanti’s goal. With the Bulls shorthanded, Janne Niemela fires Bradford’s second of the game at 5:36 of the middle stanza with Jonne Walkky and Adrian Carlsen drawing the assists. 25 seconds before the end of the second, Josh Brunton finds the back of North York’s net on a Bradford power play with Ryan Dimillo and Bekolay notching the helpers.
On a Renegade power play, Conor Thomson sends a pass to Connor Ventura to pull North York with two at 8:11 of the final period. Scoring the Bulls fourth of the match – up, Jamie Niemela added to lead at 13:32 of the period with Lazarus Ritter and Richard Deak adding the assists. With an unassisted goal, Ryan Dimillo sinks Bradford’s final goal of the contest to bring their lead to 5 – 1 at the 18:55 mark of the third. With time ticking down, Jonathan Schillaci sunk the Renegades second of the game with catching a pass from Ventura on a visitor power play. North York’s Evan Purdy turns away 65 of 70 shots in the Renegades 5 – 2 loss in Bradford.
The Renegades will return to action for their first home game of the 2017 – 2018 season when they play host to the expansion Windsor Aces in a 3:00 p.m afternoon matinee.
