In their first regular season match – up, the North York Renegades hosted the Northumberland Stars on September 29th at Canlan Ice Sports York in Greater Metro Hockey League action. The Renegades were coming off a 1 – 0 win over the Riverkings in Oshawa on September 25th.
Conor Thomson sends a pass to North York’s Jonathan Schillaci two minutes into the game to give the Renegades a 1 – 0 lead. At four minutes even and on a power play, Nevin Guenther sinks the Renegades second of the contest with Drake Bailey and Louis Yiouroukis adding the helpers on Guenther’s power play goal. David Maikawa finds the back of the Stars net 12:50 into the period with North York’s second power play goal of the period to bring the lead to 3 – 0. Alexander Noble and Alexander Isidori had the contributors on Maikawa’s goal. With 1:20 left in the period, Robert James sends Northumberland into the first intermission down by only two. Tim Lavinge had the helper on James’ goal.
50 seconds before the halfway mark of the middle stanza, Northumberland’s Tyler Brackin sinks the Stars second of the game with Matt Davies and Evan Wasylyk drawing the assists. Wasylyk evens the game 3 – 3 with 13 seconds left in the second with Brackin and Adrian Frias setting up Wasylyk’s tying goal. North York’s Jonathan Schillaci’s scores the game winner for the Renegades to give the hosts a 4 – 3 win. Evan Purdy made 33 saves in the Renegades fourth win of the season.
North York (4 – 2 – 1) will now travel to Tottenham on September 30th for a 7:30 p.m start against the (2 – 3) Steam.
