In their first game at the 2017 Greater Metro Hockey League Showcase, the fourth place south division (19-6-0-2) North York Renegades took on the third place north division (19-6) Bradford Rattlers on December 12th at the Vale Centre in Port Colborne, Ontario in exhibition action.
With a power play goal 16:39 into the opening period, North York’s Troy Murray fires the first goal of the game with Jonathan Schillaci and Conor Thomson adding the assists on Murray’s goal. 1:31 into the middle stanza with an unassisted goal, Renegade David Kaikawa gives North York a 2 – 0 lead with a goal behind Bradford netminder Matej Koren. Bradford’s Evgeny Lukin pulls the Rattlers within one at 8:14 of the period with Oscar Rzekanowski and Gadzhi Kazbekov drew the contributors on Lukin’s goal. Nicolas Carnovale scores North York’s third of the contest with 37 seconds remaining in the period with send the Renegades into the second intermission up 3 – 1. Chris Martin and Maikawa notched the helpers on Carnovale’s goal. Gustav Larsson Flink sends a pass to Hampus Fagrell at 19:44 of the third to close the gap to one for the Rattlers. With Bradford’s net empty, Connor Ventura gives Renegades a 4 – 2 win, Drake Bailey had the assist on Ventura’s goal. North York goaltender Evan Purdy made 17 saves in the Renegades win at the 2017 GMHL Showcase.
Next up for the Renegades will be the North Selects in a 5:00 p.m start in Port Colborne at the Vale Centre.
