North York’s Thomson Leads the GMHL Renegades Past Northumberland

The fourth place (19-6-0-2) North York Renegades hosted the sixth place (14-7-0-4) Northumberland Stars in a south division Greater Metro Hockey League match – up at the Canlan Ice Sports York on December 16th. In their last meeting, Renegades shutout the Stars 5 – 0 back on December 8th in Colborne, Ontario GMHL action.

With North York shorthanded 41 seconds past the halfway mark of the opening period, Steven Santos found the back of the Stars net with Conor Thomson and Christian Bascio adding the assists. Rick Pantling sends a pass to Renegade Chris Martin at 13:01 of the period to give the hosts a 2 – 0 lead for North York. Troy Murray and David Maikawa set up the Renegades third on a Jonathan Schillaci goal at 14:59 of the first to bring the lead to 3 – 0. Scoring his second of the game at 7:35 of the middle stanza was Renegade Chris Martin to add to North York’s lead with Thomson adding the helper. 63 seconds later and shorthanded, Schillaci notches the fifth for the Renegades with Thomson and Pantling drawing the contributors at the 8:38 mark.

Alexander Isidori and Santos added the assists on Murray’s goal to increase the lead to 6 – 0 for North York at 17:01. With three seconds left in the period, Northumberland’s Matt Davies sends the Stars into the second intermission with the visitors first goal of the contest. Tim Lavigne and Justin Pilon registered the helpers on Murray’s goal. Finding the back of Renegade’s net was Star Joshua Hall for Northumberland’s second of the game at 19:51 of the third. North York’s Evan Purdy and Nicklaus Robinson shared the goaltending duties in the Renegades 6 – 2 win with Purdy stopping 19 of 20 in forty minutes and Robinson turning away 11 of 12 in twenty minutes.

The Renegades will host the Tottenham Steam on December 19th in a 7:45 p.m start in North York.
