In their first of three games in three days, the fifth place Fort Frances Lakers hit the ice at the Ice for Kids Arena in Fort Frances, Ontario to meet the visiting third place Thunder Bay North Stars in Superior International Junior Hockey League action on February 9th.
At 15:30 of the opening period, Kyle Auger fires the first goal of the game behind Laker goaltender Ismael Ralsten to give the North Stars a 1 – 0 lead with a pass from Thunder Bay’s Joe Newhouse. Thunder Bay’s Avery Siau finds Justin Muir 16:35 into the first to bring the North Stars lead to 2 – 0. Newhouse and Jake Behse set up the visitors third of the contest at the 12:46 mark of the second on Alex Maticic goal to increase the North Stara lead to 3 – 0. With 3:29 remaining in the game, Siau sinks the fourth of the game to give Thunder Bay a 4 – 0 shutout win over Fort Frances. Brendan Gillis and Maticic drew the contributors on Siau’s goal. Laker goaltender Ismael Ralsten turned away 33 of 37 shots in Fort Frances loss on Friday evening.
The Lakers will now head to Red Lake, Ontario for a back to back series on February 9th and 10th against the fourth place English River Miners. Game time on Saturday evening will be 7:30 (CST) p.m start.
