NOJHL Game 5 West Division Final Preview, Birds vs Wildcats

Thunderbird HelmetOn Saturday April 4th, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Soo Thunderbirds have the Elliot Lakes Wildcats backs against the wall heading into game 5 of the NOJHL west division final. The Thunderbirds hold a 3 – 1 lead in the best of seven series with the only post – season loss coming on April 1st in Elliot Lake in game 4.

17 year old Sault Ste Marie, Ontario native Matt Caruso leads the 2015 playoffs with 13 goals and sits in fourth in points with 16 in eight post – season gamed for the Thunderbirds in his first year in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Veteran goaltender Brian Kment has between the pipes for the Soo for a total of 360 post – season minutes in six games with leading all NOJHL goaltender with a goals against average of 1.50, save percentage of .933 and is tied with Elliot Lake’s A.J Smith for the most shutout wins in the 2015 playoffs with three each.

Thunderbird coach Jordan Smith told the Junior Hockey Network that “we keep pushing along and stick to our system and need to bear down on our opportunities and continue to control the play” to get the win on Saturday at home against the Wildcats.

When asked about game five, Thunderbird defenseman Dave Radke told the Junior Hockey Network that “we just have to play our game, buy in, and be committed to get the job done and we’ll be fine.”
