The Mattawa Blackhawks of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League hit the road of Friday September 19th for their six straight road game. The Blackhawks haven’t been able to play or practice at the Mike Rodden Arena in Mattawa, Ontario due to the renovations that are taking place.
The Blackhawks will be in Cochrane on Friday to face the Cochrane Crunch who hold a 3 – 1 record while Mattawa will be looking for their first win of the 2014 -2015 NOJHL season.
Stittsville, Ontario native Alex Hulford sits second in scoring in the NOJHL with four goals for the Blackhawks. Three of Hulfords goals have come on Mattawa power plays. Blackhawks goaltender Joe Sheppard has seen 165.5 minutes between the pipes that ranks him for fourth in the short season among goaltenders. Sheppard has also seen the third most pucks in five games in the NOJHL with 106 saves.
At Tim Hortons Event Centre in Cochrane on Friday, the Crunch’s Cody Gratton will be looking to get his 8th point of the season while teammates Jacob Erwin and Jason Berube sit in 5th in the scoring race with 6 points each heading into tonight’s game against the Blackhawks.
Netminder Matt Young of the Crunch has seen 120 minutes in net and has two wins under his belt and has saved a total of 70 out of 75 shots to give him a 2.5 goals against average and a save percentage of .933.
Puck drop will be at 7:30 p.m in Cochrane.
