Miners Hand Lakers a SIJHL Loss in Red Lake

After a 5 – 4 heartbreaking loss on February 10th in Red Lake, Ontario to the English River Miners, the fifth place Fort Frances Lakers returned to action in a 2:00 p.m afternoon matinee against the fourth place Miners in the second of a back to back Superior International Junior Hockey League match – up on February 11th.

38 seconds past the halfway mark of the opening period, Dustin Roitelman finds Nick Lucas of the Lakers to give the visitors a 1 – 0 lead on Lucas’ 15th of the season at the 10:38 mark of the period. With the hosts on a power play at 15:11 of the first, Spencer Milne sinks the tying goal behind Laker goaltender Ismael Ralsten to pull the Miners even 1 – 1, Brody Jennings and Jacob Siebenga drew the helpers on Milne’s tying goal. Scoring his second of the contest at 2:17 of the middle stanza, Milne brings the lead to 2 – 1 for English River with Jennings and Siebenga notching the assists on Milne’s go – ahead goal. Jack Bernie fires his 11th of the season 3:12 into the period with Adam Withers and Christian Ward setting up Bernie’s tying goal. 29 seconds before the halfway mark of the period, Nic Herringer sunk the third for the Miners with Ethan Wong and Siebenga adding the contributors on Herringer’s goal.

At 13:13 of the second, Michael Di Lullo increases the lead to 4 – 2 for English River with Milne and Siebenga registering the helpers on Di Lullo’s goal. Only 23 seconds into the third, Dante Tisi finds the back of Ralsten’s net for the fifth for the host with Milne and Siebenga adding the assists on Tisi’s goal. 30 seconds later, Siebenga adds to the lead for the Miners to bring the lead to 6 – 2 with a pass from Milne. With an unassisted goal, Ian Jarvis scores his 13th of the season with Lakers third of the contest at 7:48 of the final period. Brody Jennings gives the Miners 7 – 3 win over Lakers to sweep Fort Frances. Tisi and Di Lullo drew the helpers on Jennings goal at 9:20 of the third. Goaltender Ismael Ralsten stopped 30 of 37 in the Lakers loss in Red Lake Sunday afternoon.

The Lakers will meet the sixth place Minnesota Iron Rangers in a mid – week match – up on the road in a 7:00 p.m (CST) start on February 14th in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota.
