At Legends Centre in Oshawa, Ontario on February 5th, the fourth place (27-8-0-4) North York Renegades hit the ice to face the eighth place (12-24-0-2) Oshawa Riverkings in a south division Greater Metro Hockey League match – up. In their last meeting on December 5th in North York, the Renegades edged the Riverings in a 5 – 4 contest.
At 5:45 of the opening period, Oshawa’s Quinn Chivers finds the back of Renegade goaltender Nicklaus Robinson to give the hosts a 1 – 0 lead with a pass from Elijah Morris. With North York on a power play, Chris Martin fires the tying goal 9:33 into the second period with Marc – Anthony Lacroix and Drake Bailey adding the helper on Martin’s power play marker. David Maikawa sinks the go – ahead goal 12:10 into the period with Martin and Connor Ventura setting up Maikawa’s goal to bring North York’s lead to 2 – 1. Mathias Balhan scores the Riverkings second goal of the contest at 14:47 of the middle stanza to even the 2 – 2. Liam Banavage and Pierre Luc Forget had the contributors on Balhan’s tying goal. Mark Mannarn and Troy Murray register the assists on Martin’s game winning goal at 12:29 of the third to give the Renegades a 3 – 2 win. Nicklaus Robinson turned away 20 of 22 shots in North York’s 28th win of the 2017 – 2018 season.
