In the afternoon matinee on May 18th in Cobourg, Ontario, the British Columbia Hockey League’s ((1-1-0-1) Pentciton Vees took on the Ligue de Hockey Junior AAA du Québec (1-0-2) Fred Page Cup champions, the Terrebonne de Corbas in both junior ‘A’ franchises final round robin games at the 2017 RBC Cup.
With the Corbas on a power play at 18:02 of the opening period, Pierre – Anthony Martineau sank the first goal of the contest to give Terrebonne a 1 – 0 lead with Gabriel Paquin and Raphaël Sawyer setting up Martineau’s goal. Gabriel Paguin scored the LHJQ champions second of contest with 40 seconds remaining in the period to send the Corbas into the first intermission up 2 – 0. William Gignac and Martineau drew the helpers on Paquin’s goal at the 19:20 mark of the period.
Benjamin Bohémier fires Terrebonne’s third of the game behind Penticton’s goaltender Mathew Robson to bring the lead to 3 – 0 with Mickaël Lafrance-Clairsaint and Martineau adding the contributors on Bohémier’s goal at 7:28 of the middle stanza. Vee Owen Sillinger sinks Penticton’s lone goal of the game at 6:48 of the final period to pull the Vees within two. James Miller and Mitch Meek had the helpers on Sillinger’s power play goal. Penticton goaltender Mathew Robson stopped 31 of 34 shots while Corba netminder Jérémy Bélisle turned away 37 of 38 in Terrebonne’s 3 – 1 win.
The Penticton Vees, Terrebonne de Corbas, the Ontario Junior Hockey League Cobourg Cougars all have six points to earn the three to a semi – final berth will the Alberta Junior Hockey League Western Cup champions, the Brooks Bandits sit atop of the RBC Cup standings with eight points. After the outcome of the Cougars versus Bandits match – up on May 18th, the semi – final match – ups will be determined.
