In the second game of day two at the 2017 RBC Cup in Cobourg, Ontario on May 14th, the Ontario Junior Hockey League (0 – 1) champions, the Trenton Golden Hawks and Ligue de Hockey Junior AAA du Québec champions, the Terrebonne de Corbas hit the ice in a 7:30 (EST) match – up. The Golden Hawks opened the 2017 national championship with a 3 – 2 overtime loss to the hosts, the OJHL Cobourg Cougars while the Corbas fell 6 – 3 to the AJHL champions, the Brooks Bandits on day one.
Golden Hawk Chris Sekelyk finds the back of Corbas netminder Jérémy Bélisle’s post 2:07 into the opening period to give Trenton a 1 – 0 lead with an unassisted goal. With a Chris Sekelyk wrap around from behind Terrebonne’s net at 15:50 of the first, Anthony Sorrentino slides the Golden Hawks second of the contest under Bélisle to bring Trenton’s lead to 2 – 0. 1:58 into the final period, Vincent Lavoie and Tommy Beaudoin set up Terrebonne’s first goal of the game to pull the Cobras within one on Gabriel Paquin’s goal behind Golden Hawk goaltender Chris Janzen. At 4:44 of the third, Terrebonne’s Pierre-Anthony Martineau scores the tying goal to even the game 2 – 2 with Mickaël Lafrance-Clairsaint notching the contributor on Martineau’s tying goal.
Chad Pietroniro finds the back of Trenton’s net for the Cobras’ go – ahead goal at 6:38 of the period with an unassisted goal for Terrebonne to give the LHJQ champions a 3 – 2 lead. Golden Hawk goaltender Chris Janzen stopped 19 of 22 shots while Jérémy Bélisle turned away 28 of 30 shots in Terrebonne’s first win of the 2017 RBC Cup in Cobourg.
In an afternoon matinee, the OJHL Golden Hawks will take to the ice at 3:30 p.m on May 16th when they meet the AJHL Brooks Bandits. In the Tuesday evening match – up, the Corbas next opponents will be the hosts, the Cobourg Cougars in a 7:30 p.m puck drop.
