The Fort Frances Lakers have added defenseman 19 year old Cohen MacPherson and 20 year old forward Jeff Venzon to their 2017 – 2018 Superior International Junior Hockey League’s roster.
The 6’3” and 250 lbs Thorold, Ontario native Macpherson sank seven goals and added 15 assists with the Richmond Generals of the USP3HL while tallying 41 minutes in penalties in 41 regular season contests while adding two goals and two assists in three post – season games in 2017.
Wayne Strachan told the Junior Hockey Network that “Cohen will bring size to our defense core. He is physical and has a good hard shot from the back end. He is a player we targeted last year to come to the team and we are pleased that he has now chosen to join our hockey team.”
6’2” and 175 lbs Niagara Falls native, Venzon played for his hometown Niagara Falls Canucks and Pelham Panthers during the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League 2016- 2017 season with sinking nine goals and contributing 16 assists while accumulating 20 minutes in penalites in 37 GOJHL regular season games.
“Jeff had a tough season last year being injured in a USHL camp and then choosing to take the full year to rehab to get back to 100%. Jeff has good size, skates well and will bring skill to our line up. He is working hard to get back to playing next year and we are excited to see him in main camp and this season” said Strachan.
