After a 8 – 6 loss at home in South River, Ontario 24 hours earlier, the Almaguin Spartans hit the road to face the Parry Sound Islanders on October 8th at the Bobby Orr Community Centre in Greater Metro Hockey League action.
4:06 into the opening period, Almaguin’s Aron Knutsson sets up Felix Morin to give the Spartans a 1 – 0 lead in Parry Sound on Saturday evening. Parry Sound’s Milan Prusek sinks the Islanders tying goal at 5:46 of the first with Ervin Halasz and Dominik Mikulcak adding the assists. Mikulcak scores the Islanders go – ahead goal 3:47 into the second with helpers coming from Halasz and Niki Raiskio. At 5:10 of the period, Dominik Tuna increases the Islanders lead to 3 – 1 with Joel Kupfer and Raiskio drawing the contributors.
Adding to Parry Sound’s lead 6:50 into the second was Islander Matyas Mach. Stepan Jirovec and Jan Kotyza registered the helpers on Mach’s goal. 37 seconds past the halfway mark of the second on a Islander power play, Vyoral brings Parry Sound’s lead to 5 – 1. Sending the game into the second intermission, Parry Sound’s Valtteri Makiviinikka fires the Islanders sixth of the game at 17:20 of the second with assists coming from Benjamin Linna and Milan Prusek.
Islander Jan Vyoral added two more goals in the third at 4:22 and 12:14 to give parry Sound a 8 – 1 win over the Spartans. Halasz, Prusek and Tuma had the helpers on Vyoral’s third period goals.
Almaguin’s Mark Moon stopped 25 of 31 shots in the first 40 minutes before Nicolas Jouanne played the final 20 minutes for the Spartans. Jouanne turned away 7 of 9 shots in Almaguin’s 8 – 1 loss.
The Spartans next game will be on October 13th in Alliston, Ontario against the New Tecumseth Civics at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre in a 7:30 p.m start.
