On Friday September 29th at the Vale Centre in Port Colborne, Ontario in Greater Metro Hockey League regular season action, the Niagara Whalers hit the ice against the visiting London Lakers. The Lakers were coming off their first win of the 2017 – 2018 season on September 23rd against the North York Renegades while the Whalers were looking for their third straight win.
Parker Gee had the lone goal for the Lakers in Port Colborne in London’s 9 – 1 loss on Friday evening. Chris Spicer and Eisai Arai had the assists in Parker’s power play goal. Niagara’s Nick Pastorious led the Whalers with one goal and five assists in the win along with Patrick Desjardin, Zach Main and Jakob Reeves adding four points in the Whalers win. Desjardin had four helpers with Reeves sinking two goals and contributing on two more. Main registered his first hat trick of the season and notching one assist for the Whalers. Dmitri Beer, Jesse Masterson and David Christopher each had three points for Niagara with Beer adding three helpers, Masterson with two goals and setting up one Whaler goal.
Pontus Gravander, Frolov Mikhail and Kellan Rosenbaum all had two points in the win with Rosenbaum and Gravander adding two contributors while Mikhail sunk two behind Laker netminder Owen Stevenson. Five Whalers had one point each with Sam Martin, Charles Jensen, Daniel Pugliese and Logan Aprea all setting up one goal a piece along with John Swiatek scoring one for Niagara. Whaler goaltender Holden King stopped 16 of 17 shots while Laker netminder Stevenson turned away 21 of 30 shots in Friday evening’s match – up in Port Colborne.
The Lakers will host the St. George Ravens on September 30th in a 8:00 p.m puck drop in London while the Whalers will have seven days of junior hockey action before facing the Ravens at the Vale Centre on October 6th in Port Colborne in a 7:30 p.m start.
