In a south division match – up in Komoka, Ontario, the fifth place (21 – 17 – 2) Komoka Dragons hosted the fourth place (25 – 14 – 2) Niagara Whalers in Greater Metro Hockey League action on Saturday February 6th.
Matt Ross of the Dragons gives Komoka a 1 – 0 lead at 15:04 of the first with assists from Colin Hartwick and Robert Mapes. Ross finds the back of Whaler goaltender Jonathon D’ILario’s net for his second of the game one minute into the second to give Komoka a 2 – 0 lead with a pass from Ryan Watson. Sending the Dragons into the second intermission with a 3 – 0 lead, Komoka’s Jackson Zimmermann scores the hosts third at 16:15 of the second with Grant Duffield and Mapes adding the helpers.
Scoring his 12th of the season was Brooker Muir of the Whalers to bring Niagara within two at 7:39 of the third with an assist from Joseph Mancuso. Zimmermann sinks his second of the contest at 18:01 of the period witth Duffield and Ross adding the contributors. With 1:07 left in the game, Alexandr Ivanov sinks his 29th on the season for the Whalers second of the game. Andrew Robinson and Cam Blakely drew the helpers on Ivanov’s goal.
Niagara will look to rebound from the 4 – 2 loss in Komoka on Saturday evening when they face the south division sixth place Toronto Predators in Toronto on February 8th for a 7:30 p.m start.
