The 2017 Greater Metro Hockey League’s Russell Cup champions have added another piece of the puzzle with bringing in 21 year old Zach Main to the 2017 – 2018 GMHL Niagara Whaler roster.
5’9” and 150 lbs forward from Welland, Ontario played 47 regular season games with the GOJHL St. Catherines Falcons in 2016 – 2017. In 47 games with the Falcons, Main sunk 27 goals and added 68 assists along with 21 minutes in penalties. In 16 post – season match – up in the spring of 2017, the 21 year old forward had seven goals and contributed on eleven for the Falcons.
The Welland, Ontario product was drafted by the Barrie Colts in the 2012 Ontario Hockey League Priority Draft with the 198th selection in the tenth round.
When asked why he choose the Whalers for his final season of his junior career, Main told the Junior Hockey Network that “I’ve heard nothing but great reviews about the Niagara Whaler organization. It’s a top notch team and organization that specializes in treating their players right, and winning.”
“As a veteran junior forward I’m hoping to bring experience to mentor some of the younger guys, but also a winning attitude to help lead the whalers to another championship” said Zach.
