Corson, Sawka, Rheault Named NOJHL Week 15 Stars

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced December 25th that goaltenders Michael Corson of the Blind River Beavers and Logan Sawka of the Elliot Lake Wildcats along with forward Gabriel Rheault of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians have been named its Three Stars of the Week for the period ending December 24th.

Michael Corson (G) Blind River Beavers – Corson’s efforts helped Blind River pick-up three of a possible four points heading into the league’s holiday break.

Hailing from Darien, Illinois, the 18-year-old American made 53 saves in a hard-fought 2-1 double overtime setback against the Soo Eagles before earning a 2-1 victory over Elliot Lake, that featured 39 stops along the way.

Corson currently paces all NOJHL netminders in both goals-against average and save percentage at 2.00 and .949 respectively.

He also sports a 12-4-1 record through 17 appearances for the Beavers heading into the New Year.

Logan Sawka (G) Elliot Lake Wildcats – In two appearances for the Wildcats Sawka posted a 1.50 goals-against average and a solid .966 save mark along the way.

The 20-year-old netminder, who hails from Calgary, Alberta began with 45 stops in a narrow 2-1 defeat at Blind River before finishing with a 41-save performance in Espanola as he backstopped Elliot Lake to a 4-1 triumph over the Express.

Sawka’s .926 overall save percentage currently ties him for fifth best among all NOJHL goalkeepers.

Gabriel Rheault (F) Rayside Balfour Canadians – In his club’s lone contest last week, the 20-year-old New Liskeard, Ontario product tallied twice, including the game-winner, as Rayside-Balfour skated to a 5-2 road victory over the Soo Eagles at Pullar Stadium.

With goals in three straight games, Rheault now has five in seven outings since he joined the Canadians at the end of November.

Through 26 games this season, which includes earlier time with both French River and Kirkland Lake, the veteran forward has scored eight times and assisted on 13 others for 21 points.
