AJHL Bandits Shutout LHJQ Corbas to Advance to RBC Cup Final

In the second semi – final of the day on May 20th in Cobourg, Ontario at the 2017 RBC Cup, the fourth place round robin Ligue de Hockey Junior AAA du Québec Terrebonne de Corbas hit the ice against the second place Alberta Junior Hockey League champions, the Brooks Bandits in national championship action. The Bandits double up on the Corbas 6 – 3 on May 15th in round robin action.

4:51 into the game, Brooks Tyler Carangelo sinks the opening goal behind Corba netminder Jérémy Bélisle to give Bandits a 1 – 0 lead with Nathan Plessis and Arnaud Vachon adding the contributors. At 11:30 of the middle stanza, Nick Prkusic sends a pass to Bandit Ty Mappin to bring the Western Canada Cup champions lead to 2 – 0. With the Bandits on a power play, Joe O’Connor adds to Brooks lead at 4:36 of the final period with Cale Makar and Josh McKechney drawing the assists on O’Connor’s goal. Giving Brooks a 4 – 0 shutout win with the Bandits fourth of the contest was Prkusic at 7:53 of the third on an unassisted Bandit power play goal.  Terrebonne netminder Jérémy Bélisle stopped 42 of 46 shots while Mitch Benson earned a shutout in the Bandits 4 – 0 win with making 28 saves.

Brooks will face the hosts, the Cobourg Cougars in the 2017 RBC Cup national championship game on May 21st in a 5:30 (EST) p.m puck drop.
